We always specify our leash lengths in the open and unhooked state and measure from the “dog” carabiner to the “human” carabiner.

Biothane® is a patented material that is intended to be a vegan replacement for leather. It consists of a polyester fabric strap (you can imagine it like the webbing on a car seat belt), which is covered in a water-repellent material (ThermoPlastic Polyurethane , or TPU for short). It is manufactured by the American manufacturer BiothaneUSA and is considered the "Level A quality product" in the industry.

In short , PVC webbing has a similar structure and is manufactured in the EU. The composition of the inner fabric is slightly different, but as a dog owner you won't notice this and it doesn't have any disadvantages.

The casing consists of a PVC jacket, which reacts slightly more to temperature fluctuations. Webbing becomes a little harder in the icy cold and stiffens a little more than the original Biothane. In return, the webbing is said to have better grip - especially in wet conditions. The color selection is not as large as with the Biothane.
